Previews

Welcome to this month's previews section! Here, anyone making an OHR game who wants a little more exposure can advertise their games. Previews cover a wide range of games; works in progress, demos, or finished products. If you want a preview of your game to appear in the next issue, send the title, a couple of screenshots (.png format if possible), a description (a paragraph or two is fine) and a link to download if one exists.

This month's previewed games are Bloodlust, Detelamane: Legacy of Scars, Magisteral, Spellshard: The Black Crown of Horgoth, and Stinkmace: The Legend of Dinosaur Triple.

A horror survival game, featuring a level down system, usage of sound effects, and creepy atmosphere and enviroments. You play as Reed, who has just woken up in the middle of the night to discover something is wrong. Upon exiting your room, you find the entire house covered in blood... something has happened, and you can only hope your loved ones are okay. Will you be able to discover their fates, as well as what is happening to the world? (Demo is approximately 40% of what will be the whole game)

Detelamane: Legacy of Scars, by TwinHamster

In his childhood, Den wanders through a threshold of darkness with his two companions, Aleck and Owen. After encountering two dark sprits after a long-sealed power, Den reemerges into the real world with his companions dead, a scar on the right side of his face, and his soul intertwined with darkness.
Ages later, an accidental meeting with a holy man convinces Den that the only way to reclaim his soul will be to destroy the organization that destroyed his friends so many years ago. With his mind set on vengeance, Den begins his journey into the world.

Magisteral, by Aethereal
Magisteral has returned to the OHRRPGCE after a work hiatus of Far Too Long. With a new revision that was originally tailored to a RPG Maker XP version, now refitted for the OHRRPGCE, Magisteral returns as a game that has improved greatly from its previous incarnation. Take up the role of Deros Calliste as he gathers five allies, each of the six with a special and unique magical power, to save their world from being destroyed by itself while tangling with a revived force that attempts to thwart their every move. Magisteral's gameplay is very similar to the original released demo, where the strategy of each new battle changes thanks to the influence of field effects that adjust your statistics for that particular battle, as well as enemies that know how to take advantage of your weaknesses.

Expect a new demo, with more content than the original, to be released tentatively in March of 2007.

Spellshard: The Black Crown of Horgoth, by HarlockHero and Shizuma
Spellshard is something of a revolution in OHR history: a nostalgia-fueled homage to the 8-bit era tempered by modern design sensibilities that have survived the test of time. It's been 1000 years since the Seven Legendary Heroes vanquished Horgoth, the Lord of Darkness and the eight arch-wizards under his command, the Lords of Decay. Since then, technology has thrived and a utopia of human progress has spread across the planet! One day, however, all man's achievements suddenly begin to break down and revert to their primitive counterparts: steel turns to mud, human-like cyborgs become simple copper pots, and disease runs rampant as all modern medicine has ceased to exist. The people are at a loss until the citadels of the Lords of Decay begin to rise again, the arch-wizards somehow restored to life! Who is behind their resurrection? Who has doomed the earth to a second apocalypse? These are the questions, and you must provide the answers!

Spellshard is a fairly large game by OHR standards as well, with a huge number of maps, over 100 different spells and abilities, 60 different hero classes, and over 9000 (yes, 9000) possible party arrangements. The game is roughly 80-85% complete, and will be released sometime in Summer of 2007.
