Vikings of Midgard
A Preview by Fenrir-Lunaris

I've been adding sub-quests to Vikings of Midgard, and have come up with a DEVIOUS way of implementing various in-game challenges to aquire the party's various spells and power-ups.  Because just simply levelling up and getting your abilities is boring as hell.  But there's clearly something odd going on here, because they're all in-battle, so you might be suddenly surprised when what appears to be a random monster encounter turns into a unique challenge for the right to use new magic and spells.  Don't worry if you fail the challenge - just find the spot where the encounter occurs and try again!

Often times you'll be required to help out another character, usually one who's facing overwhelming odds by themselves.  Most of the time you just need to kill off whatever monster is attacking them, since the NPCs are ordinarily too weak to fight back...

Other encounters ONLY show up when particular characters are in your party, so you might want to mix up your roster from time to time, just to ensure you encounter the NPC.  And don't always start off the battle swinging your swords - many of the NPCs aren't that powerful, and may run away!  Size up your foes to determine their motives, especially if they're carrying bibles...

Other foes need a motivation to fight you, such as this guy.  In in this particular scenario you'll need to quiclky figure out what to do.  If diplomacy fails....

Other times you'll be hard pressed to survive against foes you just can't defeat.  Bide your time distracting the enemy and the NPC might provide you an opening to act...
