The Long Journey Home
by
Camdog is a very interesting game. It is short, it is
strategic
and you will never have the same experience twice. Quite a
feat
for an “outdated” engine like the
OHRRPGCE. The fact
that it has only been downloaded 24 times is a major oversight by the
OHR community as a whole.
The in-game
tutorial can be toggled on or off.
The premise of the game is that you are in command of a spaceship that
has been stranded many, many light years from home. Your goal
is
to get back home in as short a time period as possible.
Simple,
right? Well, it could be but that depends entirely on how you
choose to play. Therein lies the beauty of this
game.
It’s all about the choices you make, or, rather, the choices
you
are ALLOWED to make. You want to explore the galaxy?
Great!
Just be careful of hostile aliens. You want to make a beeline
for
home and ignore everything else around you? Go
ahead! You
truly can play this game over and over again and have a completely
different experience every time.
The map is randomly generated every time you start a new
game.
The only thing that remains constant is that your home star is at the
bottom-center of the map. Between you and your home there are
any
number of stars and planets for you to explore. Again, you
don’t have to explore them at all. You can avoid
everything
and just go home.

You can explore any of
the stars or planets in the galaxy. Or you can just ignore
them.
If you choose to explore, though, there are multiple things that could
occur. You could run into hostile aliens that have nothing better to do
than blow your ship to bits. You could find a shop where you
can
purchase upgrades so that the hostile aliens won’t be able to
blow your ship to bits. You could find a watch that you can
then
sell for “Galcreds,” the game’s form of
currency. You can even choose to attack aliens who really
mean
you no harm. This game does a really good job of presenting an
interesting universe that is fun (and sometimes dangerous) to
explore.

Are these alien ships
hostile or helpful? Only one way to find out...
The music sets a great mood, also. It really complements the
atmosphere of the unknown that this game paints. You can feel
the
tension mount as you draw nearer to an unexplored planet, unsure of
what awaits you when you get there.
The only flaw that The
Long Journey Home
has is that the enemies are REALLY overpowered. Often, I
wouldn’t even have enough time to launch a single attack
before
getting my ass handed to me by a bunch of pissed alien scum.
I
even purchased a bunch of upgrades to my weapons and armor, but I was
still defeated easily. Maybe there are enemies out there with
lower stats that I just haven’t run into yet.
It’s a
big universe. Anything is possible.

Seconds before being
obliterated.
And that really says it all. Camdog presents
possibilities.
I’ve played this game multiple times and I still think that I
have only seen a fraction of its content. Do yourself a favor
and
download this game. It is an experience like nothing else for
the
OHRRPGCE.
