Spoonweaver by Spoonweaver? What the hell?  I didn’t know what to expect with such an unconventional name choice.  Perhaps some zany adventure that explains how the author acquired such a zany name?  Maybe a deeply introspective journey into the author’s mind that explores his place in the universe and, indeed, the very foundation of his existence?  Nope!  It’s a Pac-Man clone.  And a very incomplete one, at that.

You play the role of a spoon, thrust into a world of red bricks, skulls and ugly blob-things with googly eyes.  Apparently, the blob-things really hate spoons and will do everything in their power to hunt you down and kill you.  As the spoon, it is your goal to collect all of the skulls while avoiding these sadistic killing machines.  Why would a spoon want to collect skulls?  Perhaps to weave them?  That would be my guess.

The game functions properly.  The spoon moves when you press the arrow keys.  When you collect a skull your score goes up.  Unfortunately, that is as far as the game play goes.  There are NO power-ups.  Hence, there is nothing you can do to defeat the evil blob-things.  Your only option is to avoid them.  The map design makes this very frustrating.  I kept finding myself cornered with all of my escape routes cut off.  This wouldn’t be that big of an issue if there was more than just ONE map.

This game has an interesting premise (in a demented sort of way) and I find it impressive that Spoonweaver (the author, not the game,) who is a new user, has a good enough grasp on plotscripting to design an unconventional game using the OHRRPGCE.  I just wish Spoonweaver (the game, not the author) was more complete.  Add some power-ups.  Add some levels.  Add an explanation as to what the hell is going on!

In closing: good idea, poor execution.  This game needs some incubation.  Sadly, I have a feeling that this is going to remain yet another premature release that will never be expanded upon.
