Terrible Games Contest 2007 Lineup
A feature by Iblis

This year's Terrible Games Contest has come to an end, and eight games have made it to the end. The theme of this contest is edutainment, meaning that the games should attempt to teach something. Entries are also awarded extra points for including content that the ESRB labels as mature or adult.

Dance Dance Armageddon, by TwinHamster

A classic tale of preventing the villain from acquiring various artifacts of power. Don't expect a DDR clone, there's nothing like that here. But the main character has dancing battles with his enemies that use a lot of interesting sprite animations. Uses maptiles from Fenrir's Vikings of Midgard, with MP3 quality music. Regarding the theme of the contest, it's unclear what the game is supposed to teach.

Eyes, by Onlyoneinall

The game does not start due to a DLL error, but it appears to be a horror game of some sort, likely trying to score bonus points for gore. Any educational value it may have or attempt to have is unknown.

Mazes of Persistence, by Uncommon

Guide Poor Milton through a maze, without giving in to his constant requests to stop and give up. Enjoy the vast two color maps and simple sound effects. Although it might be a stretch to call this "edutainment," it seems to attempt to teach the value of persistence.

Mending Wall, by JSH357

Shows, line by line, the poem "Mending Wall" by Robert Frost, with seemingly random images displayed in the background. Many of the images are pornographic, and a few are gory, likely in order to earn it as many bonus points as possible. Comes with two executables: one that plays sound effects and one that doesn't, due to the currently buggy nature of sound effects in the OHR. It's unclear what it's supposed to teach.

OHR SACHEN Multipack, by Fenrir Lunaris

Unfinished and contains very little gameplay, if any. When you run the .exe it starts a random game, one Pac-Man looking game (pictured above), one where you control a race car, one where you're Fenrir attacking sheep, and one that's just a flashing screen that says "GO TO HELL." It likely would have fit the edutainment theme had it been finished, but it doesn't seem to now.

Super Concentration Headache Battle Warrior, by Moogle1

A sort of sequel to Moogle1's acclaimed Super Concentration Headache Master Pro, winner of a previous Terrible Games Contest. Like its predecessor, it uses a changing palette to confuse the player, but this game challenges the player with a series of simple puzzles (using the OHR battle engine) which must be solved quickly, not unlike Warioware. Set to the classic tune "Mahna Mahna." Unless it claims to teach faster reflexes it doesn't seem to comply with the edutainment theme.

Striptease Typing Tutor, by No_Shot

A typing "tutor" which rewards your progress by showing a pixellated woman take off her clothes for you. All of the words and phrases you're instructed to type are of an adult nature. Purports to teach typing, obviously.

Super Trivia, by Ysoft_Entertainment

A trivia game which asks questions mostly about a few anime series, with a few history questions as well. The more questions you get right, the more clothing a woman named "Kyoko" removes. Trivia could maybe be considered somewhat related to edutainment. You might learn something about Slayers and Inuyasha.

Good luck to all entries!
