Red Maverick Zero: It was that time of year again; the 48 Hour Contest was coming. I wanted a team to work on it with because it usually runs a lot smoother. So in anticipation, I asked Twin Hamster if he would join me this year. We were both unable to do the first round, but come the second round, we were ready.

Twin Hamster: Yeah, I got a random little PM asking me to work with Red. I was a little "Uh..." at first, but it quickly became more of a "Oh..." I already had a few ideas in my head and decided that a team game might be the better choice for the both of us.

RMZ: We got the topic right at midnight and hit the ground running with ideas, throwing em back and forth like richocheting bullets, trying to adapt a really good concept quickly so we could plan out the rest of the game and who was going to do what. I had the idea of having a kid go to sleep and his surroundings affecting his dream.

Twin Hamster: I actually really wanted to give the kid some kind of a negative memory to trouble him throughout the game; but fortunately, Red stopped me and came up with the idea to use dinosaurs and candy. This apparently gave us a big boost in points when judging came around. So lucky us, eh?

RMZ: Through "extensive" studies we discovered kids like dinosaurs and candy. Then it was time for us to start molding our general idea into a game and breaking it down piece by piece so we could get it done with time to test and everything.

Twin Hamster: Eventually, we settled down on some pretty simple ideas. I think we pretty much designed the entire game within...what? An hour?

RMZ: Twin Hamster went off running with those maptiles and I did all the walkabouts for our main characters, and as soon as we realized it, we were already pushing 2 AM.

Twin Hamster: Well, Red had work or something, so I was left with most of the game to finish. (Or start)

RMZ: By the time I signed off for the night, I had to make sure that Twin Hamster had everything he needed out of me to get some progress on this game. When I got back from work, over half of the game was done!

Twin Hamster: Unfortunately, trouble struck a bit early.

RMZ: Indeed.

Twin Hamster: We were both using different versions of the engine.

RMZ: Ouch.

Twin Hamster: Red was using Hasta+ and I had the WIP version. This resulted in some pretty messed up results when we tried playing the game.

RMZ: Yeah, so eventually, I said, look, I don't feel like redoing stuff because time isn't on our side, so I tried to direct TH as much as I could so he could do the rest of the game.

Twin Hamster: Right before that, it was "You screwed up my scripts and graphics and I'm not redoing them."

RMZ: Hahaha, yeah, I was pretty steamed.

RMZ: After we started getting our workflow going, we managed to get a lot done, and before we knew it, the game was done, except for the music and lots of little things we didn't have time for or realize til the second it was on Castle Paradox.

Twin Hamster: Yeah, we found like five bugs ten minutes before upload, and the battle system is nothing but half a thought at this point. There's also this pretty nasty "Item-Deletion" bug that I have yet to bother to fix. So try not to run into that.

RMZ: Since we were at the end of our rope like TH has been saying, we needed music to really captivate the fun free spirit of Henry and his dream. So while TH was finishing up the game, I managed to get some pretty good pieces of music from Yoshi's Story and a few other Yoshi games, since those are pretty much as kid friendly as you can get.

Twin Hamster: And might I say, a fine choice indeed. We didn't even recognize the "Kid Riding Dinosaur" Similarity until post-upload.

RMZ: So uhhh... with all the stress and rushing we had, I'd say the game turned out pretty well. We'll probably have the fixed version of this game up sometime in the near future.

Twin Hamster: Actually, getting a spruced up version in time for "Release Your Game Month" would be pretty nice.

RMZ: Indeed. So yeah, in July you'll see the updated version of Prince of Dreams, the winning game of the 48 Hour Contest Round 2.

Twin Hamster: Hopefully.
